When I first saw this note, I was deeply intrigued by the face side of it. No, not the portrait, but the images to the left and right of the portrait. At the bottom left there is an image of a huge and beautiful sail ship. At bottom right there is an image of a huge iron-clad ship from the early 20th century. I found this to be extremely interesting, and was excited to find a few of these banknotes available on eBay for under $20, so I bought a few. Even in F condition, a banknote that cost $20 has been bought at one seventh of its catalog price, if the catalog is to be believed. Either way, this is a beauty that I recommend for both investors and collectors. Old, beautiful, valuable, and cheap in eBay … what a combo!
When I bought this note I wasn’t sure what the pick number etc. were, but I did know that I have never seen it up for auction before (though I’m sure it has been). That’s one nice thing about constantly being on eBay browsing through paper money: you get to know what the common notes are, what sells and what doesn’t, the bargains, and the rarities. This note is seldom seen, so I figured it would be a wise purchase at $6.00.
Though p20a from Latvia is not the prettiest of notes (it does feature Prime Minister K. Ulmanis at right, who is really creepy looking) it is a rare find, even in VG condition. Quite randomly, I found this note on eBay, and managed to snag it at a very good price: $3.65, which is a little more than one tenth of its catalog value in this condition. Bargains abound!
Alright, I have finally had a little time and I have, I think, outdone myself. In a couple of days I have added all modern issues of paper money for the following countries:
From some of my previous work, the following countries were already in the database:
This means that I have officially added all Modern Issues of paper money for all countries starting with the letter L.
Liberia and Luxembourg already have images and values added. I have downloaded and sorted images for Laos, Latvia, Lebanon, Lesotho, Libya, and Lithuania. They will be added to the gallery during one of my boring classes / labs. I have also prepared a lot of images for the Republic of Ireland, and Northern Ireland. They will be uploaded as well. I think I will be adding the catalog values (CV) for these recent additions soon, as well. I still have some time tomorrow …
